Job Description:

The successful candidate will join a dynamic team in the Language Development Group in the Academic Development Programme, CHED, and work closely with the Humanities faculty and other faculties across the university. The successful candidate will report to the unit head of the Language Development Group.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, deliver and review workshops on writing
  • Advise individual students on the writing of qualitative research
  • Contribute to academic staff development
  • Assist with the management of postgraduate research projects on research writing
  • Develop peer research-support forums for students
  • Collaborate with qualitative disciplines to design writing interventions at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Undertake research, preferably on writing in the qualitative disciplines
  • Design and teach on a suite of face-to-face, blended, and online writing courses
  • Train tutors in departments and consultants in the writing centres on aspects of academic writing

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting qualitative research
  • Experience with multimodal teaching platforms
  • Demonstrated relevant experience in the teaching or tutoring of academic literacies at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • An appropriate Masters qualification (NQF9), preferably a PhD, or working towards completing a PhD
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
