Job Responsibilities: Ensuring site compliance with all laboratory-related regulatory procedures; Assisting with the processing, storage and transport of biological research samples (e.g. blood, sputum and urine) when required; Performing validation tests on HIV rapid testing, pregnancy tests, trichomonas and urinalyses; Monitoring and managing temperature and humidity control processes for storage of sensitive items; Compiling and performing version control of laboratory-related standard operating procedures (SOPs); Taking responsibility for the chain of custody for study samples until the results have been received; Conducting regular stocktaking and ensuring that sufficient materials be available for the required laboratory analyses at all times; Performing internal quality control of rapid test kits; Serving as primary contact person for any callouts regarding the laboratory; Helping to maintain laboratory equipment at the site; Capturing specimens on laboratory information management systems (LIMS); Serving as primary contact person for any callouts regarding biorepository freezer alarms; Performing external quality assurance; Job Requirements: Excellent computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and management of multiple files and folders; Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) such as Laboratory Data Management Systems (LDMS) and REDCap; Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to function in a team; Awareness of the importance of accurate protocol implementation; A three-year tertiary qualification in biological, medical, health or life sciences; The willingness and availability to work flexible hours.
