Job Description:

We are seeking a Hardware Quality Assurance Engineer to join the DSN (Deep Space Network) QA Team. The Deep Space Network is NASA’s international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Applying broad knowledge in field to evaluate customer engineering requirements and devising approaches to meet requirements
  • Generating, reviewing, and approving various types of documents associated with assembly, test, and inspection
  • Verifying the design, fabrication, test, integration of the hardware subassemblies, assemblies meet specifications and requirements by means of witnessing, inspecting, monitoring of processes and products.
  • Analyzing and researching complex hardware problems to provide recommendations with solutions.
  • Communicating and working with multiple engineering disciplines, contractors (domestic and international), suppliers (domestic and international) and DSN site representatives (domestic and international) to reach program quality objectives
  • Ensuring that the JPL Quality Assurance Program is documented and maintained. Developing program improvements.
  • Partnering with other engineers and project personnel to investigate important problems and issues; reviewing findings and recommendations with the Review Board.

Job Requirements:

  • Occasional work in environments with loud noises (construction sites, welding, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Prefer Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field) with typically minimum 6 years of related experience in Quality Assurance or Field Engineering
  • Ability/willingness to work on site at the Goldstone DSN Complex outside Barstow, CA 2 – 3 days a week and travel internationally up to 4 times a year.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
  • Occasional work in confined spaces within the DSN antenna support structures
  • Occasional work in various terrains including desert terrain, construction sites (uneven soil, etc.), and under varying weather conditions (high winds, rain, extreme heat, extreme cold, etc.)
  • Ability/willingness to work a flexible schedule including night, weekend, and holidays as needed
  • Occasional climbing of up to 210 feet on structural steel
  • Incumbent will be expected to complete all mandatory JPL fall protection or other related training
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
