Job Description:

Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as technical expert in interactions with NASA researchers, other government agencies, academia, and industry, to ensure noise reduction technologies are relevant and pertinent for current and future aircraft noise issues.
  • Apply numerical models of sound propagation, both commercial and NASA-developed, and numerical models of acoustic liner performance to design and optimize acoustic liners for aircraft noise problems.
  • Participate in the development of research plans and objectives, including milestone generation, and lead research to satisfy project milestones.
  • Design and execute experiments using NASA acoustic facilities, including NASA Langley’s Curved Duct Test Rig, to explore the aerodynamic and acoustic performance of novel acoustic liner concepts.
  • Apply mathematical concepts to improve numerical approaches used to estimate the acoustic impedance of liners from experimental data in various aerodynamic and acoustic environments.
  • Communicate results of research efforts with the broader technical community in appropriate conferences, working groups, NASA publications and journal publications.
  • Couple physics-based insight with knowledge of aircraft systems, from small UAVs to subsonic commercial transports, to improve the performance of noise reduction solutions for aircraft.
  • Plan and conduct research to design and develop novel passive and active noise reduction concepts for propulsion and airframe noise sources on a range of vehicle configurations from small UAVs to subsonic commercial passenger transports.
