Job Description:
As a Material Handler, you will be a member of the Logistics Division Section 2830 and will report to the Shipping and Receiving Group Supervisor. You will be responsible for receiving, processing, and distributing material for final delivery.
Job Responsibilities:
- Routes material to destinations on and off-lab as directed, which may include creating shippers
- Unpack and check that received goods that are moderately complex and comply with purchase orders or invoices
- Unpack and pack shipments to comply with packing specifications, using appropriate tools (containers, machinery, and packing material such as foam and popcorn)
- Uses hazmat training and other training to identify and report any materials needing special handling, such as ESD, Hazmat, or temperature sensitive items
- Interfaces with Laboratory personnel regarding types of packaging material available for shipment, and other routine inquiries
- Accesses computer database to input moderately complex receipts
- Operates material handling equipment, including skids, pallet handlers, and hand trucks
- Identifies high dollar receivable items and tag material with property identification tag as required
- Uses familiarity with IATA and DOT to prepare moderately complex records of materials shipped and bills of landing
- Identifies and documents over/under or damaged material
- Maintains files of all routine shipping and receiving documents
- Perform the physical or administrative tasks involved in the receiving, storing, distributing and shipping of materials, parts, supplies and equipment. Unpack, check, and document goods received. May help pack and ship items using appropriate tools (containers, machinery, and packing materials such foam and popcorn)
- Follows established procedures for routine work, and detailed instructions for new assignments
- Communicates to obtain or exchange detailed information requiring some explanation or Interpretation
Job Requirements:
- Typically requires a High School diploma with a minimum of 6 years of related experience; or Associates degree with a minimum of 1 year related experience; related required training
- Solid understanding of general job aspects in receiving and documentation of goods received
- Understanding of applicable policies, procedures, and practices in acquisition process
- Must have experience using electric forklift and electric pallet jack
