Job Description: Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee. Job Responsibilities: Assists in the development and implementation of practical processes for the fabrication of large- and small-scale hardware, to help meet research and development milestones. Utilizing Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) techniques to program and operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) manufacturing machinery. Evaluate compliant or non-compliant hardware using the inspection standards of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Assists senior technicians in the planning, design, development, documentation, fabrication, installation, and construction of complex experimental components to achieve research objectives. Works with senior technicians to provide results of the data collection and interpretation of the in-process inspection to determine whether the fabrication or assembly can proceed or needs to be modified. Uses Computer Aided Design (CAD) techniques to prepare models and meet specifications for the fabrication, modification, or repair of new or existing research hardware, models, facilities, and components. Expertise in the Fabrication trade, solving unique technical issues, identifying, evaluating, and recommending appropriate solutions to resolve complex interrelated problems and issues. Effectively utilizes metal forming equipment and related machinery to include bending parameters, shearing, cutting and welding principles, practices, processes and applications.
